The MSJC football team built a 13-7 lead after the first quarter on Saturday night, but couldn't hold on as they lost on the road at Moorpark 33-26.

After an early touchdown by the Raiders, MSJC scored 13 straight points to grab the lead after the opening period.  Mason Krause got the Eagles on the board with 8:30 to play in the first with a 34 yard field goal to cut the Moorpark lead to 7-3.  On the ensuing Raiders drive, the Eagles' Carsten Mamaril came up with an interception and returned it 50 yards into the end zone to give MSJC the lead 10-7.  Krause would add his second field goal with just over a minute and half to play in the period to end the first 15 minutes with the Eagles up 13-7.

Moorpark answered with a go ahead touchdown early in the second quarter, and then the MSJC defense came up with another big play as Quentin Evans stripped the ball from the Raiders running back and returned it 30 yards for an Eagle TD.  Krause added to extra point and the Eagles led 20-14.  Moorpark would re-take the lead for good however before the half on a 60 yard pass play to make it 21-20 at the break.

The Raiders scored the only 9 points of the third period as they recorded a safety and a touchdown to push the lead to 30-20.  The Eagles scored their lone offensive touchdown of the game on the first play of the 4th quarter when Hayden Lara scored on a two yard run, the 2 point conversion failed and MSJC trailed 30-26.  Moorpark would tack on a field goal with 7:26 to play for the final points of the night.

Lara finished his day completing 30 of 46 passes for 234 yards, Malik Blackmon had a game high 7 receptions for 76 yards.  Lara also led the ground attack for MSJC with 43 yards.  Miron Hazem and James Scearce were credited with a team high 5 tackles each for the Eagles.  Mamaril and Hazem each had an interception.

The Eagles fell to 0-3 on the season while Moorpark improved to 2-1.  MSJC will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Fullerton College for a noon kick off.
