The MSJC softball team pounded out 13 hits on Wednesday, but came up just short in their final home game of 2019 as they fell to visiting Grossmont 9-7.

The Eagles fell behind early 4-1, but rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-4 lead.  Destiny Sanchez earned an RBI on a bunt that scored Alyssa Mosqueda to get things rolling in the bottom of the 2nd.  Then it was back to back hits by Tiffany Borst and Jessica Noriega that each drove in a pair of runs to cap off the big inning.  Grossmont would claw back to take the lead 7-6 through 4 1/2 innings, but MSJC responded one more time to tie it up in the bottom of the fifth when Victoria Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly that scored Crystal Serrano.  Grossomont would score twice in the top of the sixth however to secure the victory.

The Eagles were celebrating Sophomore Day on Wednesday, as they honored the lone sophomore on the 2019 roster Brittni Heath.  Heath finished the final home game of her career with a hit and an RBI.

Julissa Ledesma, who was the hard luck loser in the pitching circle, had a big game at the plate as she reached base four times on three hits and a walk.  Ledesma also scored two runs.  Noriega and Rodriguez both ended the game with a pair of hits each.

The loss drops MSJC to 1-24 on the season, they will conclude the 2019 campaign with a road game at San Diego Mesa next Tuesday at 3 pm.
