Women's Basketball Splits a Pair of Games at Lion's Club Tip-Off

The MSJC women's basketball team picked up a win on Thursday against Antelope Valley, but then dropped a contest with Palomar on Friday in the 2019 San Jacinto Lion's Club Tip-Off Classic.

The Eagles defeated Antelope Valley 75-57 on Thursday as they led from start to finish.  MSJC built a lead of 9 by the half and led by as much as 23 in the game.  Haylei Janssens led a balanced offensive attack with 13 points, she also pulled in 9 rebounds.  Mariah Sanchez came off the bench to add 12 points, while Keiara Barton had 11 points and 9 boards and De'Adra Ross had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots.  In all 11 different Eagles scored in the game and MSJC got 37 points off the bench, including 9 from Kiana Castello and 8 from Haley Suarez.

On Friday the Eagles had a rough third period against Palomar and could not recover as they lost to the Comets 82-64.  Janssens had another big game for MSJC as she finished with a game high 28 points and also grabbed 13 rebounds. Sanchez and Deja Blue also reached double figures in scoring with 11 and 10 respectively.  Ross dominated the glass in the loss as she pulled in a career high 20 rebounds.

The Eagles now 1-2 on the year will have this week off, before playing in the Gaucho Classic in Mission Viejo on November 21st and 22nd.  MSJC will take on Southwestern on the 21st and Mira Costa on the 22nd with both games tipping off at 5 pm at Saddleback College.
