WBB: Eagles Earn Road Win at Santa Ana

MSJC's Deja Blue had 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals Saturday to help the Eagles defeat Santa Ana 87-63.

The MSJC women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack on Saturday afternoon as they went on the road and defeated Santa Ana 87-63.

The Eagles jumped out to a 19-14 lead after the first period and were able to build that out to a 41-27 lead by halftime on their way to their fourth straight victory.  Rayven Crook and Deja Blue got things off to a strong start for the Eagles as both of them scored 9 points in the first half to establish the early MSJC lead.  

By the time the game was over five Eagle players had reached double figures in scoring led by 17 from Blue and Sandee Heiermann.  Heiermann had a double double on the day as she also pulled in a season and game high 17 rebounds for MSJC.  Blue added 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists to her stat sheet.  Alexis Pina also had a double double for the Eagles as she scored 12 points and grabbed 13 boards.  Crook ended her day with 14 points and Mariah Sanchez came off the bench to add 11 for the Eagles.  Diamonere Butler just missed double figures finishing the game with 9 points, she also grabbed 6 rebounds as MSJC out rebounded Santa Ana on the day 56-33.

The win improves MSJC to 8-4 on the season, Santa Ana fell to 6-5.  The Eagles will open Inland Empire Athletic Conference play this week with a pair of league games.  Wednesday MSJC will travel to Joshua Tree to take on Copper Mountain at 5 pm and then host Barstow College on Saturday at 1 pm.  Both games this week are part of doubleheaders with the men's team.  The men's team will play the same two opponents immediately following the women's games.
