Soccer Wins With Shut Out on Sophomore Day

The MSJC women's soccer team celebrated Sophomore Day on Tuesday by shutting out visiting Palomar 3-0 in their final home match of 2018.

The Lady Eagles took control of the match early and rolled to their 5th victory of the season. Sophomore and leading scorer Heather Furuya gave MSJC the early lead when she scored just 8 minutes into the match. Furuya got an assist from Anahi Lopez. Furuya would be right back at it in the 20th minute as she scored her second goal of the day and her 11th on the year with an assist this time from Adailia Ploudre. The Lady Eagles would further increase their lead just before the half as Ajahni McClendon scored unassisted in the 45th minute to move the score to 3-0 at intermission. The defense held strong in the second half to preserve the shut out with goal keeper Sarah Sawyer making 2 saves in the victory.

MSJC was coming off a scoreless tie with San Diego Miramar last Friday.

Tuesday the Lady Eagles honored six sophomores for their contributions to the program over the past couple of seasons. The sophomores honored were; Sawyer, Gloria Martinez, Furuya, Taian Torres, Savannah Martinez, and Emily Gonzalez.

MSJC is now 5-8-6 on the season and 3-3-3 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division matches. The Lady Eagles will conclude their season on Friday when they travel to Palm Desert to take on College of the Desert. Friday's match is
