The MSJC volleyball team opened the season on Wednesday night with a hard fought five set loss to visiting Pasadena.

The MSJC women's volleyball team opened the season on Wednesday night and despite showing signs of a strong season to come, fell short 3-2 against visiting Pasadena City College.

The Eagles started the night strong with a 25-21 win in the first set.  Pasadena would answer by claiming the second and the third by scores of 25-13 and 25-15, before MSJC responded with a late comeback in the fourth.  Trailing 21-17 in the fourth the Eagles rallied for a 25-23 win to force a fifth and deciding set.  MSJC could never really find their footing in the fifth and dropped the final set 6-15.

Makenzie Nutting and Faith Galvan led the offense with 9 kills a piece while Savannah Page chipped in with 4.  Hayley Anderson had a team high 17 assists while Caitlin Cunningham had 11.  On defense Angelina Castaneda had a team high 23 digs with Anderson and Galvan each picking up 11.  Nutting's solid two way game also included 5 solo blocks and 4 block assists on the evening.

The loss drops the Eagles to 0-1 on the season, but MSJC is right back in action on Saturday when they travel to Imperial Valley to play three matches.  In Imperial MSJC will take on East Los Angeles, Southwestern, and Phoenix College.  The Eagles will start the day at 9 am against ELAC.  MSJC will return to their home floor on Tuesday September 3rd when they host  Cuyamaca at 5 pm.
