Since 2005 Patrick has impacted a variety of programs at the college while serving as a Dean in Student Services.  At various times throughout his nearly 20-year tenure he oversaw the college’s Outreach Program and has served as the Dean in charge of Student Conduct.

Patrick is very involved in the local Community and has served as a Board Member for both The Hemet Valley Kiwanis and Hemet Sportsman’s Clubs.  He was instrumental in the creation of the Bob Stangel, John Chambers, and Bill Gray Awards which are awarded annually to local high school student-athletes by the Sportsman’s Club.

Since taking over as Dean the Eagle athletic teams have won 26 conference titles under Springer’s watch and have made three State Championship finals appearances winning a title in women’s basketball in 2018.

Patrick completed his 17th season as the head coach for the MSJC men's basketball team during the 2021-22 season, before stepping down from that position.  This past season marked his 21st overall as a California Community College head coach.  Springer’s teams reached the postseason in all but one of his years as a head coach, and the Eagles won four conference titles in his last 8 years.   Springer remains at MSJC as the Dean of Kinesiology and Athletics.

In his career, Springer’s teams averaged 21 wins per season.  The Eagles also reached the Elite Eight of the State Tournament twice since 2011.  Springer has led his teams to thirteen 20 win seasons and the Eagles have reached that mark 10 of the past 12 years.  Last year’s team reached the CCCAA playoffs for the 13th consecutive season.

Prior to the Eagles joining the Inland Empire Athletic Conference, Springer led MSJC to three Foothill Conference titles.  Those championships came in 2004, 2008, and 2011.  Springer has a career head coaching record of 429-226 and since his arrival at MSJC prior to the 2003-04 season, the Eagles have posted a mark of 359-165.  Springer reached the 400 win mark on December 14th, 2019 when the Eagles defeated Riverside City College 55-48.

Under Coach Springer’s direction, 34 players have signed Division I scholarships and many more have moved on to the NCAA Division II and NAIA levels.

Springer began his coaching career in 1991 as an assistant coach at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa where he worked with current Toronto Raptors Head Coach Nick Nurse.  After two seasons at the NAIA school, he spent the 1993-94 season at Des Moines Hoover High School where he helped the Huskies to the #1 ranking in Class 4-A in the state of Iowa.  The following season Springer returned to the college ranks as an assistant at Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, Missouri.  In his second season, the Scouts won the NJCAA Division II National Championship.

Following the championship season at Penn Valley Coach Springer was hired as the head coach at College of the Desert in Palm Desert, CA.  Springer led the Roadrunner program for three seasons reaching the Regional Tournament all three years. The 1998-99 season produced the first 20 win season at COD in eight years and was just the third in 23 seasons for the school.  Following the 20 win season at COD Springer was hired as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I San Jose State University.  During his time at San Jose State Coach Springer moved up the ranks from assistant coach to associate head coach in his final season.  After three years with San Jose State, Springer went back to the community college level taking over the program at City College of San Francisco.  In his one season at CCSF Springer led the Rams to a playoff berth.

A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Springer attended Iowa Western Community College before finishing his playing career at the University of Iowa.  Springer set the single-season scoring record as a player at Iowa Western and still holds the single-season record for field goals made at the school.  Patrick was a walk-on guard on the Iowa Hawkeye team that reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.  After earning his B.A. degree from Iowa Springer later earned his Master’s Degree from Mid-American Nazarene College in Olathe, Kansas.  Coach Springer and his wife Lurece live in Hemet with their daughters Simone and Josephine.
