Beach Opens Season Splitting a Pair of Matches

The MSJC beach volleyball team opened the season Friday by defeating Riverside and dropping a close match to Mt. SAC.

The Eagles opened their season with two matches hosted by Mt. SAC, in their first match MSJC defeated Riverside City College 4-1. Brooklynn Thomas and Mckenna Conklin won in the team's #1 match as they defeated the RCC pair in straight sets 21-9 and 21-4.  Josephine Springer and Megan Gajda won in straight sets as well 21-19 and 21-9 in the two's match.  The number 3 and 4 matches both went 3 sets with the Eagles winning both as Carley Kruse and Brooklyn Jimenez won 17-21, 21-15, and 15-13 while Trysta Vincelli and Kalia Anady won 21-15, 16-21, and 15-12.  The duo of Lauren Cummings and Tracy Blanchard lost in two close sets 18-21 and 17-21.

In the second match of the day Mt. SAC was able to edge out the Eagles 3-2.  Thomas and Conklin again won at number one, (16-21, 21-14, and 15-12) while Vincelli and Anady won at #4 (21-9, 23-21) for MSJC's other win.  Springer and Gajda fell at #2 14-21 and 19-21, while Jimenez and Kruse as well as Cummings and Blanchard lost in tough three set matches.

The team is back in action on Friday February 9th when they travel to Long Beach to take on Cerritos and Riverside.  The matches on the 9th are scheduled to begin at 10 am at Belmont Shores.
