MSJC's Josephine Springer and Brooklynn Thomas advanced the round of 16 at this weekend's 3C2A State Championships.

The MSJC beach volleyball duo of Brooklynn Thomas and Josephine Springer won 3 of 4 matches over the weekend at the 3C2A State Pairs Championships and made it all the way to the Round of 16, before seeing their historic season come to an end.

The pair was the first in program history to reach the State Tournament and they took advantage of their opportunity.  The event starts with pool play, and in Pool #8, the Eagles won all three of their matches to advance into bracket play which included the Final 16 pairs in the 3C2A.

Friday during their opening match Thomas & Springer defeated a team from Ventura 19-21, 21-16, and 15-9.  In their second pool play match on Friday the MSJC duo would face the #1 seeded team from Northern California representing American River College and the Eagles once again prevailed in three sets.  MSJC took the opening set 23-21, before falling in the second 19-21, but they would come back strong to win the third and deciding set 15-11.  The pair would wrap up pool play Friday with a 21-19, 21-13 sweep of a team from Hartnell to go unbeaten on the day and advance to bracket play as the number 1 seed from pool 8.

Saturday the Eagles would start the round of 16 matched up against the #1 pair of Tainea Allen and Mikayla Curry from Long Beach City.  Thomas and Springer got off to a little bit of a slow start and couldn't quite recover in the opening set falling 16-21, and then in a very hard fought second set lost 21-23 to see their tournament come to an end.

Thomas and Springer made this run for the Eagles in just the program's 3rd official season.
