8th Inning Rally Gives Eagle Baseball Win at Imperial

The MSJC baseball team scored six times in the top of the 8th inning on Tuesday to pick up their first win of the season as they defeated Imperial Valley 9-7 in a non-conference road game.

The Eagles took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Joseph Hauck hit a two run homer that scored Aaron Harper.  Imperial cut the lead to 2-1 with a single run in the bottom of the fourth and then took a commanding lead when they scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 6-2.  MSJC responded with a single run in the top of the 7th when John Huelskamp scored on a wild pitch.  The Arabs answered again with a run in the bottom half to make it 7-3 headed to the decisive 8th inning.

In the 8th five different Eagles drove in runs as Fabian Correa, Huelskamp, Harper, Peter Brooks, and Gabriel Ponce De Leon each drove in a run to give MSJC the lead at 9-7.  Travis Shaff-Brown earned his first win of the year on the mound as he pitched the final 3 and 2/3 innings allowing just one run while striking out 8.

The win improves MSJC to 1-4 on the season, they will be back in action when they travel to Cerritos for a 2 pm game on Thursday.  Cerritos defeated MSJC back on January 28th 18-17 in a six inning contest at San Jacinto.  The Eagles return home on Saturday afternoon as they will host Imperial Valley at 1 pm.
