The MSJC baseball team kicked off their long awaited 2021 season on Sunday as they went on the road and defeated Allan Hancock College 15-11. The Eagles will play at home on Tuesday April 13th when they host Antelope Valley in a double header beginning at noon.
Ricky Nunez had a monster game on Sunday for the Eagles as he blasted a pair of homeruns, including a grand slam to go along with a triple as he drove in five runs. MSJC siezed control of the game with a huge 11 run second inning when Aiden Bruce started the day's scoring with a two run double that scored Andrew Rivero and Simon Rangel. Jaden Jones followed with a 2 RBI single prior to Nunez's grand slam. Bruce picked up his third RBI of the inning with a single and MSJC added a couple more runs on Hancock passed balls. Nunez would hit a solo shot in the top of the third to push the Eagles lead to 12-0, before the Bulldogs made a comeback. Hancock had a huge inning of their own in the bottom of the fifth as they scored 1o runs to close the gap to 13-11 through five. Pitching for both teams took over through the later innings, before Rivero singled in a pair of insurance runs in the top of the 9th for MSJC scoring Jones and Aaron Harper. Alex Banuelos pitched the final 4 and 2/3 innings for MSJC to earn the victory as he allowed just 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 5.
