The MSJC baseball team won a pair of one run games at San Bernardino Valley last week to keep a hold of second place in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference standings.

Tuesday the Eagles built an early lead of 5-0, but then had to score a run in the top of the 9th to pull out a 7-6 victory.  MSJC built the early lead behind a pair of RBIs each from Nico Reyes and Kyle Serna.  Reyes had a two run single in the top of the first and Serna hit a two run homer in the second.  Will Potter added an RBI single in the 7th to push the lead to 6-1, before a late rally by San Bernardino.  In the top of the 9th MSJC scored the winning run with the help of a Wolverine error that allowed Reyes to score.  Luis Acevedo earned the pitching victory as he threw a shut out inning in the 8th, Trysten Eddy earned his fourth save of the year as he threw the 9th.

Saturday was a pitcher's duel as nobody could push across a run until the bottom of the sixth when San Bernardino took a 1-0 lead.  The Eagles finally broke through in the top of the 7th as they scored twice with a pair of unearned runs to grab a 2-1 lead.  Adrian Vento drove in an insurance run in the top of the ninth and MSJC took the victory 3-1.  Nolan LaChappa earned a no decision in the game despite throwing 5 shut out innings for MSJC, Pierce Sailer picked up the victory going 3 innings and allowing just the one run.  Brock Robarts earned his 4th save of the year as he struck out two while throwing a perfect 9th inning.

The Eagles kept their hold on second place in the conference standings as they improved to 10-3 in league games, they are now 21-5 overall.  Coming into this week MSJC trails Chaffey by three games for the IEAC lead, they have a 2.5 game lead over Cerro Coso for second.  This week the Eagles step out of league play to take on Ventura Tuesday and Thursday.  Tuesday MSJC is on the road to take on the Pirates and Thursday they will be at home, both games are set for 1 pm.
