Eagle Baseball Loses 2 of 3 to Cerro Coso

The MSJC baseball team had a tough weekend as they lost a pair of home games to visiting Cerro Coso on Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles started the week strong as they went on the road and beat the Coyotes 10-9 on Tuesday.  MSJC jumped out to a 7-0 lead and then held on for the victory.  Alec Bressler hit a homerun and drove in four runs for the Eagles while Christian Smith homered and tripled while knocking in 3 runs.  Nolan LaChappa earned the pitching victory as he threw the first 6 innings of the game allowing 4 runs, Trysten Eddy earned the save throwing a scoreless 9th.

Friday MSJC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI ground out from Bressler that scored Garrett Teunissen.  Cerro Coso answered by scoring the next 9 runs of the game with 7 of them coming in the top of the 4th inning.  The Eagles tried to get back in the game, but came up short in the 10-7 loss.  Teunissen had a big game as he went 4 for 5 with two doubles and a triple, he drove in a team high 3 runs.  Kyle Serna had a pair of hits including a triple while driving in 2.  Nico Reyes also had 3 hits in the game.  Pierce Sailer took the loss on the mound to drop his record on the season to 4-2.

In the series finale on Saturday the Coyotes took a 5-0 lead after three innings and held on to beat the Eagles 5-3.  MSJC had some chances in the final few innings, but couldn't come up with the big hit.  Bressler had a pair of hits and an RBI while Andre Torres also drove in a run for the Eagles.  Chris Scovel dropped to 4-3 on the mound this year as he pitched 6 innings.  

The Eagles who are now 24-7 overall and 11-5 in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference standings have another busy week starting on Monday.  MSJC will host San Bernardino Valley on Monday, College of the Desert on Tuesday and Saturday, and will also travel to the Desert on Thursday.  Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday's games are set for 2 pm with Saturday's first pitch scheduled for 1.
