Eagle Baseball Wins 2 of 3 in Clash at Canyons Tournament

The MSJC baseball team won two of three games over the weekend in Santa Clarita at the Clash at Canyons Tournament.

The Eagles opened the event with an 11-8 victory over the host team College of the Canyons on Thursday.  MSJC built a 8-1 lead after 4 innings and held on for the victory.  Christian Smith started his red hot weekend by going 3 for 5 with 2 homeruns and 5 RBIs on the day to carry the offense.  Kyle Serna added a homer and drove home three runs for the Eagles while Greg Luna knocked in two runs and Tanner Aoki also picked up an RBI.  Pierce Sailer picked up his third win of the season on the mound as he went 5 innings allowing 5 runs.

Friday MSJC once again took an early lead and defeated Consumnes River 8-4.  In the first inning Juni Rodriguez hit a two run homerun, before Smith blasted yet another one over the wall, this time a solo shot.  Adrian Vento added a pair of RBIs in the win while Dominick Lombardi, Josh McAninch,  and Aoki also knocked in a run.  Joseph Romero earned the pitching victory as he went 5 innings allowing 4 runs and striking out 4.  The trio of Marcos Cisneros, Luis Ricardo Acevedo, and Trysten Eddy out of the bullpen threw 4 shut out innings, allowing just 1 hit and sitting down 5 hitters by strike out.

The Eagles seven game winning streak came to an end on Saturday as Hancock scored a run in the bottom of the 10th to edge MSJC 6-5.  Smith hit yet another homerun for the Eagles while picking up 2 more RBIs, Rodriguez also drove in a pair and Lombardi picked up MSJC's other RBI.  Serna and Vento both hit doubles in the loss.  Evan Stratton took the hard luck loss in relief as he threw 3 and 1/3 innings allowing just one run while striking out 4.

The Eagles are now 7-1 on the season and will be back in action at home on Tuesday when they host San Diego City at 1 pm.
