Baseball Opens IEAC With Three Game Sweep of SBVC

The MSJC baseball team opened conference play this past week and won games on three consecutive days against San Bernardino Valley.

The Eagles opened the series on the road Thursday and won 8-3.  Christian Smith had a pair of doubles and 2 RBIs in the game while Juni Rodriguez also knocked home two runs.  Austin Sargent, Dayton Thompson, and Tanner Aoki also each picked up an RBI for the Eagles.  Pierce Sailer earned his 4th pitching victory of the season as he went 5 innings allowing just one unearned run.  Ivan Salas added three innings of scoreless relief.

In game two on Friday the Eagles won 14-8 in San Jacinto as Greg Luna started a red hot 2 game stretch going 5 for 6 with a double and 2 RBIs.  Kyle Serna and Sargent both drove home 3 runs and Rodriguez added 2 RBIs.  Luis Ricardo Acevedo earned the pitching victory out of the bullpen as he went two scoreless innings allowing a pair of hits and striking out 2.

Saturday's series finale in San Bernardino got off to a quick start for MSJC as they built a 7-0 lead on their way to a 10-7 victory.  Luna again went 5 for 6, this time he had a double, two triples, and 2 runs driven in.  Serna added 3 hits as he was just a homerun away from hitting for the cycle while driving home two.  Sargent continued to be a factor at the plate as he drove in two more runs as well.  Evan Stratton was dominate through 5 innings on the mound earning the victory as he allowed no runs and struck out 9.  The bullpen struggled some late in the game, but Trysten Eddy came in to lock down the ninth inning and earn his second save of the year.

The Eagles are now 12-2 overall and 3-0 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play.  MSJC has another three game week as they travel to Goldenwest on Tuesday, before hosting them on Thursday and welcoming Long Beach City to San Jacinto on Saturday.  Both Goldenwest games are scheduled for 1 pm, the Long Beach game will be at noon.
