Baseball Wins 2 of 3 in Cerro Coso Series

The MSJC baseball team scored 39 runs in three games last week and won two of three games against Inland Empire Athletic Conference foe Cerro Coso.

The series opened in San Jacinto on Tuesday and it was all Eagles as they easily defeated the Coyotes 18-2.  Adrian Vento led an impressive offensive charge as he collected 3 hits, a home run and a pair of doubles, while knocking in 4 runs on the day.  Christian Smith added 3 hits and 3 RBIs, while Kyle Serna also knocked home 3 with two hits including a double.  Greg Luna chipped in with 3 hits and 2 RBIs.  Julian Castro earned the pitching victory as he went 7 innings allowing just one earned run and striking out 4.

Friday in Ridgecrest the Eagles won again, this time 11-6 after being sparked by a 7 run second inning.  Austin Sargent played a big role in the game as he had 3 hits and 3 RBIs.  Serna and Tanner Aoki both drove in two runs each while Serna collected 3 more hits.  Vento and Luna both had a double in the game.  Joseph Romero was the winning pitcher as he went 5 innings giving up 4 earned runs and striking out 7.  Ivan Salas had a nice outing out of the bullpen as he threw two scoreless innings.

Saturday in the series finale Cerro Coso scored in the bottom of the 9th to walk off the game with an 11-10 victory.  The Eagles fell behind early 9-4, but rallied all the way back to take a brief lead after 7 innings at 10-9.  Coso tied the game in the 8th and then scored on a game winning single in the bottom of the 9th.  MSJC's offense was once again solid led by Juni Rodriguez's 3 hits, two of which were doubles.  Serna drove home two more runs in the game and Alex Pintal had a triple.  Marcos Cisneros was charged with the loss in relief, he gave up just one run in 1 2/3 innings of work.

The Eagles now stand at 15-4 overall for the season they are 5-1 in IEAC games.  MSJC has a busy week as they will take on College of the Desert in a three game series Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and will also squeeze in a non-conference make up game Friday against Long Beach City.  Three of the four games this week will be at home starting with Tuesday's COD match up.  First pitch Tuesday is set for 2 pm.  Thursday MSJC will travel to Desert for a 2 pm game before hosting Long Beach Friday at noon and Desert again Saturday at 1 pm.
