
The MSJC baseball team opened their 2025 season over the weekend and lost a pair of tough games with Cerritos.
Friday the Eagles opened the year with a home game against the Falcons. MSJC would take a 2-0 lead when they scored a couple of unearned runs in the bottom of the first. Cerritos answered with three runs in the top of the second to go on top. In the bottom of the second, a double by Will Siqueiros scored Ryan Rangel to tie up the game 3-3, but the Falcons would score the game's next eleven runs to take a commanding lead. MSJC tried to fight back into the contest in the bottom of the fifth when they scored five times, highlighted by a 3-run homerun over the left field wall by Luke O'Brien. Cerritos continued to add on the rest of the way as they won by a final of 20-9. Siqueiros finished the day 2 for 4 at the plate while Derek Hurtado also went 2 for 4 and scored three runs. Steven Kirtides went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs.
Saturday MSJC traveled to Cerritos for a rematch and again took an early lead as they scored in the top of the second to go ahead 1-0. The Falcons answered in the fourth with four runs to reclaim the advantage. The Eagles made it a one-run game in the top of the 6th as they scored twice. Steven Felipe hit an RBI single and later in the inning Rangel added an RBI double to make the score 4-3. The Falcons tacked on 3 insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th and kept the Eagles off the board the rest of the way for the 7-3 win. Felipe finished the game with three hits and a pair of RBIs. Chad Horton took the loss on the mound after throwing 5 complete innings. Horton gave up 4 earned runs and recorded 5 strikeouts.
The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, January 28th when they host Grossmont at 1 pm on the San Jacinto Campus.
