
The MSJC baseball team finished their regular season last week with a pair of wins that pushed them into a third-place finish in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference.
The Eagles came up just short of a playoff berth ending the year 19-21 overall and 15-9 in IEAC games.
MSJC was dominate in their final two games starting with a 25-0 home win last Tuesday against Barstow. The Eagles scored in every inning except for the seventh with seven runs coming in the bottom of the fourth. Derek Hurtado scored five runs in the victory while Steven Felipe had four hits and drove home four. Isaiah Diaz had his best outing of the year on the mound as he threw seven shutout innings as he spread out seven hits and struck out six. Easton Wagoner and Slater Theisen each threw a scoreless inning of relief to preserve the shutout.
Thursday in the season finale the Eagles jumped ahead at Victor Valley 10-0 after six and a half innings on their way to a 12-3 win. Hurtado and Justin Granado each had two RBIs while Jordan Moskal picked up four hits. Chad Horton earned the pitching victory as he threw seven innings.
Thursday's win also had significance for MSJC head coach Jake Hansen as he earned the 100th win of his career. Hansen has led the Eagle program for the past four seasons and now holds a record of 100-62-1 in that time.
The IEAC also announced their all-conference teams over the weekend with both Hurtado and Horton earning first-team honors. Hurtado was also awarded with a gold glove for his outstanding defense throughout the season. MSJC had three players make the second team; Juni Rodriguez, Felipe, and Gavin Warner were each recognized.
