Coach McClung started his coaching career in 1968 at St. Genevieve High School. He was the Defensive Coordinator at the school until 1971 and the 1970 team posted an unbeaten record on their way to winning a CIF title. In 1972 McClung joined the college ranks when he took a job at College of the Canyons.

McClung served as both the offensive and defensive coordinator at COC in his first stint at there and was also the head volleyball coach at Canyons from 1974 until 1980. After the 1981 season Coach McClung stepped away from coaching and started his own company as a General Contractor. In 2004 McClung returned to coaching at COC and was on the staff there until coming to MSJC in the Fall of 2013. While in his second stint at Canyons the Cougars earned a State and National title in 2004 and Coach McClung helped develop 12 all conference and 14 Division I players. Coach McClung resides in Murrieta and holds a Master's Degree from Azusa Pacific University. McClung has two children Ron and Amy
