The Eagles jumped ahead 9-0 before the Wolverines were able to score their first points of the game, MSJC would build the lead all the way to 16-3 before SBVC found their footing. MSJC maintained the lead the entire first half and went into the locker room with a 53-40 lead. Early in the second half it looked like the Wolverines might be poised to make it a close game as they cut the lead to 10 on two separate occasions, but the Eagles responded by out scoring SBVC 46-22 over the last 16 minutes of the game to cruise to the victory.
MSJC used a balanced offensive attack as six Eagles reached double figures in scoring led by David Thompson who scored a game high 27 points. Thompson also dished out 9 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds while making three steals. C.J. Hyder added 15 points and 9 rebounds while Luka Filipovic had 14 points and 4 blocks in the victory. Justin Holiday and Terrell Gray also both reached double figures with 13 and 12 points, while Lenzell Simmons had a double double with 11 points and 10 boards on the night.
The win improves MSJC to 21-5 overall on the season they are 6-3 in PCAC North play. SBVC fell to 21-6 for the year, they have already clinched the conference title and are now 8-1 in league play. The Eagles will wrap up the regular season tonight (Thursday) as they host College of the Desert at 7 pm. Tonight's game will be for second place in the PCAC North as the Roadrunners enter the game 5-4 in conference action and 14-13 overall, Desert won the first match up between the two teams.
Tonight will also serve as "Sophomore Night" for Eagles; Thompson, Hyder, Gray, Deshawn Millington, Mike Walker, and Israel Farrington.
