The MSJC men's basketball team had a tough time making shots on Friday night as they lost their season opener at home to LA Southwest 77-51.

The Eagles competed as they began their 2022-23 campaign, but the shots just wouldn't fall as MSJC ended the night just 20-74 from the field and 5 of 26 from three point range.  MSJC trailed by 16 at the half, but came out of the locker room with some energy as they trimmed that lead to 9, before LA Southwest responded with an 8 point run to reclaim control of the game.

Dasean Stevens led the Eagles offensive charge as he scored a team high 18 points, he also was the team's top rebounder with 12 on the night.  Kyle Render just missed double figures in scoring as he had 9 to go along with 5 boards.  MSJC was playing somewhat short handed as they are still waiting on the return of a pair of starters from injury.

MSJC returns to action with a pair of games this weekend when they travel to El Cajon to take on Imperial Valley and Cuyumaca.  Friday's game with Imperial will tip-off at 7 pm and Saturday's game with Cuyumaca will begin at noon, both games will be played at the Cuyumaca Campus.
