Men's Basketball Opens RCC Tournament With Two Wins

The MSJC men's basketball team picked up a pair of wins over ranked teams on Wednesday and Thursday as they defeated Saddleback and Riverside in the RCC Holiday Tournament.

On Wednesday the Eagles built an 8 point lead by halftime and pushed it out to as much as 22 with 7 minutes remaining in the game, before holding off a late push from Saddleback to defeat the 13th ranked Bobcats 72-62.  Dasean Stevens led a balanced scoring attack as he scored a team high 14 points.  BJ Brown added 12 off the bench while Mateo Blocker added 11.  Both Cameron Durr and Kyle Render scored 9 points a piece in the victory.

Thursday the Eagles led start to finish as they defeated Riverside 75-60 as the controlled the game from the start against the 8th ranked Tigers.  This time it was Blocker who led all scorers in the game as he poured in 21 points.  Durr came off the bench to add 15 while Render added 14.  Stevens scored just 6 points in the victory, but had a game high 10 rebounds and game high 6 assists, Brown added 9 points and 7 boards for MSJC.

The Eagles are now 8-1 on the season and will complete play in the RCC event with a game against Ventura on Saturday at noon.  Ventura comes into the game ranked #18 in the state.
