
Two members of the MSJC men's basketball team have signed scholarships to continue their athletic and academic careers.
Elijah Edwards and James Freeman IV both signed scholarships to NCAA Division II schools where they will compete next year.
Edwards a 6'7" guard signed with UC Merced a program that will be in their first season at the NCAA Division II level after previously competing in the NAIA. UC Merced will be a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), last year they reached the NAIA National Tournament. Edwards heads to Merced after being the leading scorer for MSJC last season. Edwards averaged 15.6 points as well as 5.7 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures twenty times throughout the year and had a career-high 38 points against Copper Mountain on January 29th. At the conclusion of the season Edwards was named First Team All Inland Empire Athletic Conference. Edwards played his high school basketball at Wet Valley HS in Hemet.
Freeman, a 6'5" wing is headed to Concordia University Irvine (CUI). Concordia is a NCAA Division II program that competes in the PacWest Conference. Freeman averaged 10.5 points per game last season for the Eagles and pulled in 5.5 rebounds per contest. He had a career high 20 points in a road victory at College of the Desert on January 9th. He earned Second Team All IEAC honors for his play this past season. Freeman will be joining a team that posted a record of 16-12 last season with an 11-9 mark in PacWest games. James came to MSJC after playing his prep basketball at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas.
