The MSJC men's tennis team finished the regular season on Monday as they won their second straight dual match defeating Imperial Valley 5-4. The Eagles were coming off a 6-3 win last week over Victor Valley.
In the Victor Valley match, the Eagles had to make some adjustments due to missing players, but were able to come away with the 6-3 win. Anthony Torres-Martinez stepped up and picked up a win in the #1 singles match, he also teamed with Cole Proffitt to win in the #1 doubles spot. Justin Atas and Connor Westrich also won in doubles giving MSJC the 2-1 lead headed to singles. Atas, Westrich, and Anthony Walmer joined Torres-Martinez as singles winners on the day to put the match away for the Eagles.
In their final regular season match of the season on Monday the Eagles avenged a loss earlier in the season to Imperial Valley as they won 5-4. Atas and Proffitt were the only doubles team to notch a victory. Torres-Martinez and Westrich won at #2 and #4 singles, while Rio Del Valle won his #6 match in a 10-2 tiebreaker to even the team score at 4-4. The final match to finish on the day was the #5 singles match and it was a tight one, but Walmer pulled out the 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win to secure the Eagles victory.
MSJC finished the regular season 4-11 and 2-9 in conference play. The Inland Empire Athletic Conference Tournament runs Tuesday through Thursday this week hosted by College of the Desert.
