MSJC's Gianna Gonzalez had one of the Eagles 5 hits on Wednesday, but the women's softball team came up short against Grossmont 11-6.

The MSJC softball team got off to a fast start on Wednesday as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, but ended up losing to visiting Grossmont 11-6 in Menifee.

The Eagles jumped out to the early lead when Julissa Ledesma, Taylor Filippi, Makayla Ulloa, Ashlee Lievanos, and Mariah Najera all crossed the plate in the bottom of the opening inning.  Grossmont chipped away with a single run in the top of the 2nd, but the Eagles answered back in the bottom half when Filippi scored again to extend the lead back to five at 6-1.

Unfortunately, that would be all of the Eagles scoring on the day and Grossmont would go on to cut the lead to one in the third with four runs and then take their first lead when they scored two more times in the fourth.  The Griffons went on to add three in the top of the 6th and tacked one more on in the 7th to claim the victory.

Filippi finished her day going 2 for 3 at the plate and scoring a pair of runs, she also earned a walk.  Gianna Gonzalez, Lievanos, and Najera also picked up hits for the MSJC offense.  Filippi and Ledesma did the pitching for MSJC with Filippi going five innings and Ledesma two.

The loss drops the Eagles to 0-3 on the season while Grossmont improved to 3-1.  MSJC will be back in action at home on Wednesday February 12th when they open Inland Empire Athletic Conference play against College of the Desert.  The game on the 12th at the Menifee Campus is scheduled to begin at 2 pm.
