The MSJC softball team stayed in first place in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference with a doubleheader split on Friday at home against Chaffey.

The Eagles and Panthers were locked in a pitcher's duel in game one as MSJC plated the only run of the game in the bottom of the 6th to earn the win.  Marissa Sanchez drove home Bailey Heuer with a single to give the Eagles the lead.  Trinity Robinson, who was strong all game long, locked down Chaffey in the top of the 7th to complete the shut out.  Robinson finished the day allowing just 3 hits while striking out four earning the complete game victory.

In game two the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead through 4 innings, but the Panthers rallied in the top of the fifth to push three runs across and tie the game.  Neither team could push any more runs across through 7 innings and the game went to extras.  In the top of the 8th Chaffey erupted for the 3 runs and in the bottom half MSJC could answer with just one run of their own and fell 6-4.  Sanchez, Carolina Blanco, and Madison Morris each had an RBI for the Eagles, Annalie Castanon had a pair of hits including a triple and scored a run.  Kayla Mendoza took the loss in the circle working in relief of Stephanie Wagner.

The Eagles are now 14-8 overall on the season and 5-1 in IEAC games.  They will be back in action Wednesday when they host San Bernardino Valley at 2 pm in Menifee.
