The MSJC softball team improved to 4-0 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference action on Wednesday as they defeated Victory Valley 14-2.
The Eagles lost the second game of the day to the Rams 12-3, that one was contested as a non-conference match-up.
In game one the Eagles scored three times in the first inning and three times in the third before erupting for seven more in the fifth to end the game early. Brooke Schaffer had a strong game at the plate as she went three for three with a double, a homerun, and four RBIs. Trista Clarke also homered and drove in four in the win while Hayley Gano added three hits.
The second game of the day started rough for MSJC as they gave up six runs in the bottom of the first and could not recover. Annalie Castanon had a triple, a stolen base, and drove home a pair of runs.
MSJC last week picked up a key doubleheader road sweep of IEAC rival College of the Desert. The Eagles pushed their way to a 6-4 win in game one despite trailing 4-1 after four innings. MSJC cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fifth and then scored four times in the seventh to pull out the victory. The go ahead run came on a sacrifice fly by Bailey Heuer that scored Trinity Robinson. Robinson would also earn the pitching victory as she threw three scoreless innings of relief. Castanon, Heuer, and Trinity Barnes all added RBIs.
The second game of the Desert double dip saw Ellianna Pasley throw a no-hitter for the Eagles on their way to a five inning 12-0 win. MSJC held a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth inning where they exploded for eight runs to take control of the game. Schaffer had three hits and two RBIs while Natalie Juarez hit a home run and drove home two. Laila Andrade and Kaydence Smith also both collected two RBIs.
In between the Victor Valley and Desert doubleheaders the Eagles did play a non-conference game against Saddleback and came out on the short end of a 6-3 score. MSJC's pitchers did not allow an earned run in the game, but six errors by the Eagle defense did in the home team. Juarez hit a two-run homer in the game.
The Eagles now 4-0 in the IEAC and 16-8 overall have a key conference doubleheader Friday when they travel to Chaffey. Game one on Friday is scheduled for noon.
