Women's Hoops Nets Two Victories at Panther Pride Crossover

The MSJC women's basketball team won two games over the weekend as they defeated Skyline College on Friday and LA Southwest on Saturday in a crossover tournament hosted by Chaffey College.

On Friday the Eagles were locked in a tough battle with Skyline College, a team from the Bay Area, as they came away with a 64-54 win.  MSJC led after the first quarter 19-13 and at the half 38-25 on their way to picking up the victory.  Haylei Janssens led three Eagles in double figures on offense with a team high 15 points, she also grabbed a game high 15 rebounds.  Deja Blue added 13 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds in the win while Haley Suarez came off the bench to provide 13 points as well.  De'Adra Ross hauled in 13 rebounds for MSJC as they out rebounded the Trojans 60-40 on the evening.

Saturday afternoon the Eagles got off to a bit slower of a start as they led 16-13 after one period and 35-24 at the half as they went on to defeat LA Southwest 70-51.  Mariah Sanchez came off the bench to score a game high 23 points as she connected on five three point shots.  Janssens added 16 points and 9 rebounds while Blue scored 6 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and had a game high 4 steals.  Keiara Barton contributed to the victory as well with 9 points and 4 assists, Janya Smith had 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The Eagles have now won six in a row and have a record of 7-2 for the year.  MSJC will play three times this week as they host Copper Mountain on Wednesday at 5 pm in an Inland Empire Athletic Conference contest, before traveling to Palm Desert on Friday and Saturday to play San Diego Mesa and Porterville.
