MSJC's Mariah Sanchez scored in double figures both Saturday and Sunday helping the Eagle women's basketball team to a pair of wins over LA Valley and Ventura.

The MSJC women's basketball team won a pair of close games over the weekend in Ventura to push their winning streak to 12 games headed into an Inland Empire Athletic Conference game on Thursday.

The Eagles offense had trouble getting going on Saturday as they made just 7 of 44 first half field goal attempts against LA Valley, but rebounded from a 7 point halftime deficit to win in overtime 50-43.  MSJC's defense and work on the boards saved the day as they held the Monarchs to 17 field goals with no three pointers and out rebounded LAVC 60-42 on the night.  Haylei Janssens led the Eagle offense with 25 points, she also grabbed 14 rebounds.  Mariah Sanchez came off the bench to add 10 points while De'Adra Ross snared 14 boards, and Keiara Barton had a game high 4 assists.

In Sunday's game against Ventura the Eagles once again got off to a rocky offensive start as both they and the Pirates struggled through the first 10 minutes to a 4-4 tie.  Things picked up a little in the second period as MSJC built a lead of 20-14 at the half.  Ventura came out of the locker room and out scored MSJC 20-16 in the third to cut the Eagle lead to 2 headed to the fourth.  Both team's continued to find it hard to score the rest of the way but MSJC was able to knock down enough free throws in the final 2 minutes to hold on for a 52-46 victory.  Janssens again led the way for the Eagles with 19 points and 17 rebounds.  Deja Blue also had a double double with 15 points and 13 boards.  Sanchez again hit double figures off the bench with 11.  The Eagles controlled the glass in the contest as they out rebounded the Pirates 71-48 in the victory.

The win improves the Eagles to 13-2 overall, they have won 12 straight while Ventura fell to 13-3.  MSJC will be back in action on Thursday when they host Barstow College at 5 pm as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  Thursday's game was originally scheduled to be played in Barstow, however a problem with their gym floor has moved the game to San Jacinto.
