WBB: Eagles End 2021 On Eight Game Win Streak

The MSJC women's basketball team picked up two more wins to close out 2021 as they defeated Imperial Valley and Rio Hondo to wrap up the calendar year.

On December 21st the Eagles struggled through a sloppy first quarter against Imperial Valley before out scoring IVC 27-5 in the second on their way to a 74-28 win.  Sandee Heiermann led the Eagles on offense as she scored a game high 19 points, she also had 5 assists and made 4 steals.  Shyann Morreo added 13 points off the bench while Mariah Sanchez scored 11 and Alexis Pina added 10.  Pina and Morreo both also grabbed 10 rebounds in the contest.  Deja Blue had 7 rebounds in the win.

The Eagles then held off a comeback effort from Rio Hondo on December 30th to earn a 71-67 home victory.  MSJC started off quickly as they led 18-6 after the first quarter, but the Roadrunners stayed in the game until the end as they led by one headed to the fourth quarter.  A big rebounding edge was the difference in the game as the Eagles out rebounded Rio 66-37 on the night.  The Eagles got three double doubles on the night led by Diamonere Butler who had 20 points and 15 rebounds for MSJC.  Alexis Pina added 11 points and 15 boards, while Deja Blue flirted with a triple double with 10 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists.

The two wins improve the Eagles to 12-4 on the season they are currently 2-0 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play.  MSJC is scheduled to resume IEAC action on Saturday January 8th when they travel to Victor Valley for a 1 pm game.
