WBB: Blue Headlines Women's Hoops Honors, Leads Team into Post-Season

The MSJC women's basketball team starts the 2022 post-season tonight when they host Southwestern College in the Southern California Regional Tournament.

Over the weekend both the All Inland Empire Athletic Conference and All-State teams were announced.  Deja Blue led the honors for the Eagles as she was named both IEAC Player of the Year and First Team All-State.The sophomore, from Canyon Springs High School, made first team all league as a freshman and was a third team all-state selection that year.  This season she enters the playoffs averaging 12 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5 assists a game.  In conference games she bumped those averages up to 13 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists.  Joining her on the First Team all-conference list were freshmen Sandee Heiermann and Alexis Pina.  Heiermann was the team's leading scorer for the year at 12.5 points per game, she was second in assists at 3.4 per contest and grabbed over 7 rebounds a game.  Pina scored over 9 points and pulled in just over 10 rebounds while making 2 blocks a game.

Second team honors went to sophomores Diamonere Butler and Mariah Sanchez.  Sanchez led the team in made 3 point field goals for the second year in a row while averaging just shy of 10 points per game.  Butler averaged just over 6 points  a game while grabbing 8 rebounds a contest.  Freshman Rayven Crook was named Honorable Mention All League.

These five players and their teammates won the Eagles' fourth straight conference title and the program is playing in the post season for the 15th straight season.

The winner of tonight's game between MSJC and Southwestern will travel to Moorpark on Thursday.
