WBB: Eagles Advance to Regional Semi-Final With Win Over Southwestern

The MSJC women's basketball team built a 12 point lead by halftime and went on to win their opening round Southern California Regional play-off game over Southwestern 92-63.

The Eagles led 19-14 after the first quarter despite making just 7 of 20 shots, but their defense kept them a float as they out scored the Jaguars 16-9 in the second to go into the locker room ahead 35-23.  The MSJC offense kicked into high gear in the second half as they scored 57 points in the final 20 minutes to pull away for the victory.  The Eagles dominated the glass on the night as they out rebounded the visitors 63-30 and picked up 25 offensive boards.

Four Eagles finished the night with double figures in scoring led by Mariah Sanchez, who came off the bench to score a team high 23 points, connecting on 6 three point shots.  Diamonere Butler had a very efficient game as she scored 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the floor.  Alaysia Kidwell had one of her best games of the season as she scored 15 points and pulled in 10 rebounds.  Sandee Heiermann also reached recorded a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds despite limited playing time due to foul trouble.  Deja Blue came up just short of a triple double as she scored 8 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and had a game high 10 assists.

The win improves the Eagles record on the year to 22-5, they advance to the Regional semi-finals on Thursday where they will take on Moorpark College.  Thursday's game will be at Moorpark at 7 pm.
