
The MSJC women's basketball team picked up a pair of wins over the weekend as they hosted the Eagle Classic and earned victories over Skyline College and Santa Barbara City.
Friday night MSJC took on a very tough Skyline team in a game that was close throughout. There were eight ties and nine lead changes in the game, the Eagles did not take the lead for good until the 4:20 mark of the fourth quarter when Maliyah Bosley made a lay-up to give MSJC a 57-56 lead. The biggest basket of the game came with 43 seconds left to play when Sandee Heiermann made a huge three point shot on an assist from Rayven Crook to give the Eagles a 65-61 advantage, Heiermann went on to add three free throws in the final 30 seconds to secure the 68-62 win. She finished the game with team high 17 points, she also had 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Alexis Pina added 12 points and 7 rebounds, while Valeria Brewer came off the bench to score 10. Jana Roman and Crook both finished the night with 9 points each.
Saturday afternoon the Eagles got off to a slow start against Santa Barbara City as they fell behind 19-11 after the first quarter. Heiermann and Pina both answered with 6 points each in the second period as MSJC closed the deficit to 31-30 at the half. The Eagles took control of the game in the third out scoring SBCC 17-8 and went on to win 58-51. Pina led all scorers in the game with 24, she also had a game best 12 rebounds. Heiermann finished the game with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals. Shyann Morreo added 8 points and 9 rebounds in the victory, Crook pulled in 8 boards as well.
The Eagles are now 6-1 on the season and have three games scheduled this week all on the road.
