
The MSJC women's basketball team opened Inland Empire Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a win over Victor Valley 58-44.
The Eagles opened the game by getting ahead 9-0 and would lead 20-10 after the first quarter. From there the game tightened up the rest of the way as MSJC led 37-28 at halftime and 48-35 after three quarters.
Sandee Heiermann had a big game for the Eagles as she scored a game high 15 points as well as pulling in 15 rebounds and making a team high 5 assists. Jana Roman added 12 points in the win and Shyann Morreo just missed her own double double as she scored 10 points and had 9 rebounds. Monica Malone and Valeria Brewer added a spark of the bench as Malone had 7 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals while Brewer had 8 points and 5 boards. Alexis Pina had a big impact on the game despite struggling offensively as she hauled in a game high 16 rebounds.
The win improved the Eagles to 10-1 overall on the season and 1-0 in IEAC play, Victor Valley fell to 7-3, and 1-1. MSJC is right back in action on Tuesday when they host perennial State title contender Mt. SAC. The game on Tuesday is set to tip-off at 6 pm.
