The MSJC women's basketball team recovered from a slow start on Wednesday night to win in overtime at Chaffey in their Inland Empire Athletic Conference opener.
The Eagles fell behind 17-13 after the opening quarter and trailed 34-24 at halftime but rallied to force overtime and came away with a 70-64 victory. Trinity Skinner scored 12 points in the first half to keep the Eagles in the contest. Laisha Lazu scored all 11 of her points in the second half and overtime to help secure the win. Skinner finished with a team high 16 and Lazu had a double double as she also collected a game best 14 rebounds. Drasoni Kyles added 15 points while Kohen Marshall scored 14 and Princess McCauley chipped in with 10.
Marshall scored a huge basket for the Eagles to force overtime when she made a lay-up with 3 seconds to play. McCauley came up big in the overtime period where she scored 6 points as MSJC outscored the Panthers 13-7 in the extra frame.
The win pushed the Eagles record to 8-3 on the season and 1-0 in IEAC action. MSJC is back on the floor Saturday when they host Copper Mountain at 1 pm. The men's team will follow at 3.
