Eagles See 18-Game Win Streak Snapped at Coso

The MSJC women's basketball team saw their 18-game winning streak end on Saturday as they lost at Cerro Coso.

The Eagles were coming off an easy home victory on Wednesday over visiting San Bernardino Valley 87-40. In that game MSJC led 40-25 at the half and then blew the game wide open outscoring the Wolverines 25-2 in the third quarter on their way to victory. Five Eagles scored in double figures on the night and two more had nine. Laisha Lazu led the way with 20 points she also grabbed 7 rebounds. Kohen Marshall added 14 points while Drasoni Kyles scored 12 and dished out 7 assists. Princess McCauley added 11 points, 9 rebounds and Trinity Skinner reached double digits with 10 points, both Vika Afungia and Natalie Derla had 9 points each.

Saturday the Eagles made the long trek to Ridgecrest and got off to a very rough start falling behind Cerro Coso 30-4 after the opening period on their way to a 92-60 defeat. The loss to the Coyotes snapped a streak of 18 straight wins and gave MSJC their first loss of the year in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference. Kyles led the offense with 21 points while Marshall scored 13 and McCauley added 11.

MSJC now stands at 22-4 overall on the season and 13-1 in IEAC action. The Eagles can clinch a share of their seventh straight conference title at home on Wednesday when they host Palo Verde at 5 pm. MSJC would win the league title outright with wins on Wednesday and Friday when they travel to Victor Valley.
