
The MSJC women's basketball team closed out the regular season on Friday with a comeback win at Victor Valley earning themselves the outright championship in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference.
The Eagles struggled most of the night to get their offense going but came alive in the fourth quarter to outscore the Rams 28-11 on their way to a 55-51 victory. MSJC trailed 40-27 headed into the final period before roaring back for the win. Kohen Marshall scored ten of her eleven points on the night in the final quarter and Drasoni Kyles added nine of her thirteen over the final ten minutes. For the evening Princess McCauley was the Eagles high scorer with 14 points, Trinity Skinner added 8, and Laisha Lazu had a game high 17 rebounds.
The win sends MSJC into the postseason with an overall record of 24-4, they finished 15-1 in IEAC games.
The Eagles were awarded the #7 seed in the Southern California Region and will open the playoffs on Saturday when they host the winner of Wednesday's game between Grossmont and LA Trade Tech. Saturday's game will tip-off at 7 pm on the San Jacinto Campus. Check back later in the week for tickets which will be made available on our website.
The IEAC also handed out their conference awards over the weekend and seven Eagles players were honored. Kyles, McCauley, and Lazu all were named First-Team all-league while Vika Afungia earned Second-Team honors. Skinner, Marshall, and Natalie Derla were all named Honorable Mention. Head Coach Taylor Bell was named the conference's Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to their second straight league title under his leadership. The State also passed out awards this weekend with Kyles earning Third-Team All-State status.
