Eagle Women See Season End on Cold Shooting Night

The MSJC women's basketball team found it hard to score on Saturday night as they lost a tight game to visiting Grossmont 67-59 in the second round of the 3C2A Regional Tournament.

The Eagles fell behind 23-16 after the opening quarter and trailed 38-25 at halftime. MSJC shot just nine for forty-five in the first half. The Eagles came out of the locker room and made it an exciting game in the second as they outscored the Griffons 15-7 in the third period to cut the lead to 45-40 heading into the final ten minutes. MSJC closed the gap to just one at 60-59 with under a minute to play when Drasoni Kyles knocked down a three pointer but did not score again the rest of the way. Grossmont took advantage of their free throw opportunities down the stretch making 7 of 8 to hold on for the win.

Princess McCauley led the Eagles in scoring with 13 points while both Kyles and Trinity Skinner had 12 each. Skinner also led the way on the boards with 11. The Eagles finished the night with 24 more shot attempts than the Griffins but made just 20 of 82 shots while Grossmont made 21 of 58. Kyla Palpallatoc led the Griffins with 24 points and Anayla Anderson finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Grossmont advances to the Regional Final where they will play Mt. SAC next Saturday in Walnut.

The Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 24-5, they won their seventh straight conference title and were making their 18th straight playoff appearance.
