Soccer Team Opens New Stadium With Win Over Imperial

The MSJC women's soccer team kicked off their season in the new stadium on the Menifee Campus Friday night and came away with a 5-0 win over visiting Imperial Valley College.

The Eagles controlled the match from the out set as a vast majority of the action happened on their offensive side of the field.  After multiple scoring opportunities, the Eagles scored their first goal of the match in the 23rd minute when Karyme Mendoza scored with an assist from Belinda Jara.  Jara would add to the lead 12 minutes later when she scored a goal of her own, this time it was Alexis Salgado who had the assist.  MSJC would score twice more before halftime as Salgado scored in the 36th minute and Mendoza added her second goal fo the half in the 42nd.

MSJC continued to dominate the match in the second half adding the fifth and final goal in the 68th minute from Aaliyah Sims.  The goal keeping duo of Daisy Reyes and Ashlyn Goade combined for the shut out as each had one save a piece in the victory.

The Eagles return to action with two road matches this week as they travel to Grossmont and Long Beach City.  Tuesday MSJC will play at 1 pm at Grossmont and then Friday travel to Long Beach for a 5 pm kick off.
