The MSJC soccer team played a highly competitive match on Friday night and came away with a 1-0 home win over visiting Rio Hondo.

In a match that saw great action on both ends of the pitch, the Eagles managed the only goal of the match 30 minutes in when Leilani Aves scored on an assist from Belinda Jara to give MSJC the lead.  The two teams continued to threaten throughout the match, but neither team could find the net for the final 60 minutes.  Ashlyn Goade made 4 saves in goal for the Eagles to help preserve the shut out.  A huge sequence came in the final moments of the match when it looked like the Roadrunners had the leveling goal, but a great play by defender Addisyn Mangrum clearing the ball just feet from the goal line sealed the victory for MSJC.

The Eagles have now won four matches in a row and improved to 6-1 on the season, the defense continues to be spectacular as all six wins have come via shut outs.  MSJC has a pair of non-conference home matches this week as they host Compton and Cerritos, before kicking off Inland Empire Athletic Conference play on October 6th.  This week's matches will be Tuesday at 6 pm against Compton and Thursday at 4 pm against Cerritos.
