The MSJC soccer team won their home opener on Tuesday night at HCN Bank Stadium as they defeated visiting Cerritos 1-0, the win evened the team's record at 1-1 on the season after a tough road loss on Friday night at Southwestern.

The Eagles' first match of 2025 was Friday in Chula Vista where they lost 1-0. Southwestern scored the night's lone goal just 4:56 into the opening half. From that point on both sides locked into an intense scoreless battle. Kimberly Estrada played all 90 minutes in goal making five saves.

Tuesday MSJC bounced back with a home win over Cerritos. The Eagles scored the game's only goal fifteen minutes in when Eileen Vargas found the back of the net with an assist from Lauren Bermudez. MSJC dominated most of the match despite winning just 1-0, the Eagles out shot the Falcons 20-8 and forced the Cerritos goalkeeper to make ten saves. Estrada once again played all ninety minutes in goal for MSJC and completed the shutout by making four saves.

MSJC will be back in action two more times this week as they take part in the New Balance Community College Showcase in Ventura. Thursday the Eagles will take on Canada at 3:30 and Saturday MSJC will face Ventura at 4 pm.
