The MSJC women's tennis team defeated visiting Victor Valley College on Thursday, March 2nd, by a final score of 8-1. The decisive victory raised the Eagles' conference record to 1-2 and 3-4 overall.
MSJC's #2 doubles team of Sophia Lopez and Therese Sherwood routed their VVC opponents 8-0 giving the Eagles an early one-point lead. The Eagles #3 doubles combo of Addysen Walls and Lynsie Arnold trailed 3-4 in their set but rallied from behind to win 9-7. In the third and final doubles set, the #1 duo of Lindsay Lemus and Izabella Gosiengfiao fell behind early and faced a five-game deficit at 2-7. However, the MSJC tandem clawed their way back and won an impressive seven consecutive games taking the set by a score of 9-7 giving the Eagles a 3-0 advantage going into singles play.
Four of the Eagles' six singles matches were won in straight sets. In the #4 singles matchup, Melany Raya (VVC) dominated the first set by a 6-1 margin. MSJC's Gosiengfiao stormed back to win the second set, 6-2. And in the third set super tiebreaker, the Eagle freshman played solid defense on her way to a 10-6 final set win.
