MSJC Volleyball Picks Up Win Over Cuyamaca

The MSJC volleyball team picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday night as they defeated visiting Cuyamaca College in four sets.

The Eagles fell behind early losing the first set 25-22, but rallied to take the next three to earn the victory.  The second and third sets were both highly competitive with each ending in MSJC's favor 25-23, by the fourth the Eagles had seized control of the match as they wrapped up the win with a 25-15 fourth set triumph.

Makenzie Nutting had a team high 15 kills for MSJC while Allison Rozell added 13.  Jacquline Barbosa dished out a match high 37 assists to help guide the Eagles offense, while on defense she also led the way with a team best 15 digs.  Faith Galvan added 14 digs with Jillian Soma (11) and Keona Escorpiso (10) also reaching double figures.  Nutting added four block assists on defense.

The Eagles bounced back after a tough weekend which saw them lose three times in the Imperial Valley Classic as they lost in five sets to East LA, in three sets to Southwestern, and in four to Phoenix College.

MSJC's win on Tuesday improves them to 1-4 on the season.  The busy week for the team continues tonight (Wednesday Sep. 4) as they host San Diego Mesa at 5 pm.  The Eagles wrap up the week with a pair of home matches on Friday as they play Mt. SAC at 11 am and Grossmont at 3 pm.
