Volleyball Team Rallies to Win in Five at Rio

The MSJC volleyball team came back after trailing 2-1 on Friday to pick up a five set win on the road at Rio Hondo.

The Eagles won the opening set 25-23 and then nearly took the second, but fell short in a back forth hard fought set that ended with the Roadrunners taking it 27-25.  Rio then won the third set 25-20 to push MSJC to the brink.  The Eagles rallied to win the fourth 25-19 and then rode that momentum into the fifth where they won 15-10 to take the match.

Faith Galvan led the Eagles offense on the day with 17 kills, Jacquiline Leanos added 14, Makenzie Nutting had 12, and Allison Rozell also reached double figures with 11.  Setter Jacquline Barbosa dished out a season high 56 assists in the victory.  On defense Keona Escorpiso picked up a match high 18 digs and Nutting was tough at the net as she had 2 solo blocks and 8 block assists.

The win was the Eagles second in a row and improved their record on the season to 5-8.

The Eagles will now have an extended break before opening play in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference on Wednesday October 16th.  On the 16th MSJC will travel to San Bernardino Valley for a 5 pm match, the Eagles next home contest is Friday October 18th against College of the Desert.
