Women's Volleyball Head Towards Conference Play at 7-4

The MSJC women's volleyball team will head into Inland Empire Athletic Conference play this week sporting a record of 7-4 on the season.

The Eagles who won their first conference championship in program history during the 2019 season will start defense of that title on Friday when they travel to Copper Mountain for the Inland Empire Conference opener.

MSJC has five sweeps to their credit so far this year and have lost a couple very hard fought five set matches.  The Eagles are 4-2 in their last six matches with a pair of close losses to Citrus.  They will enter conference play with the best record among league teams by far.  College of the Desert and Chaffey who shared the 2019 championship with the Eagles will begin league play with 3-6 and 1-9 records respectively.

Through 11 matches so far this season Luci Villafana has led the offense with 124 kills an average of just over 3 per set.  Ruby Ruiz is next with 77 kills in 9 matches played and Aleya Starnes who has played in just 8 matches is third at 64.  Starnes has also led the way at the net defensively with 11 solo blocks thus far and 20 block assists.  Grace Tapia has added 5 solo blocks on the year and Chanelle Ongchangco has 15 block assists.  Kayla Thompson heads into conference play with a team best 134 digs with Villafana and Ruiz also both over 100 on the season at 129 and 108.  Setters Alex Sotello and Natalya Alfonso have both put up some pretty good numbers as well with totals of 226 and 126 assists.

After Friday's road trip to Joshua Tree the Eagles will go to Barstow on Wednesday October 6th, MSJC's next home match is Friday October 8th when they host College of the Desert at 5 pm.
