Eagle Volleyball Opens IEAC With Win Over Barstow

The MSJC volleyball team opened conference play on Wednesday night and picked up the home win over visiting Barstow College in straight sets.

The Eagles began the Inland Empire Athletic Conference season by quickly dispatching the Vikings as they won by scores of 25-9, 25-13, and 25-10.  MSJC had 26 total kills in the match led by Luci Villafana with 8 on the evening.  Ruby Ruiz and Aleya Starnes added 5 kills a piece.  The balanced offense had 9 total players record at least one kill in the match and also had 6 different players earn assists.  Alex Sotello was the leader of that group as she dished out 13 assists, both Natalya Alfonso and Kayla Thompson had 4 each.

On defense it was Laelanie Isbell and Thompson who led the way as each picked up 5 digs while Ruiz and Starnes each had a solo block.  Starnes also added 3 block assists in the victory.

The Eagles improved their overall season record to 8-4 with the win and are 1-0 in IEAC play.  MSJC's match scheduled for Friday with College of the Desert has been postponed due to COVID protocols and a make up date will be announced soon.  The Eagles will return to the floor on Friday October 15th when they host Cerro Coso in a 5 pm match.
