Volleyball Team Rallies to Beat Desert in Five

The MSJC volleyball team came back from a 2-0 deficit on Monday to defeat College of the Desert 3-2 and remain unbeaten in IEAC action.

The MSJC volleyball team had to dig themselves out of a 2-0 hole on Monday night, but found a way to stay unbeaten in conference play by coming back to defeat College of the Desert 3-2.

The Eagles had a rough start to the night as they dropped the first set 15-25.  They followed that up by losing the second 21-25, before they turned it on to win the third 25-12 and the fourth 25-15 to force a fifth and deciding set.  In the fifth MSJC rode their momentum to a 15-12 victory to claim the match.

Ruby Ruiz had a team best 15 kills on the night with both Luci Villafana and Aleya Starnes knocking down 13 a piece.  Alex Sotello dished out 42 assists.  Kayla Thompson picked up a team high 19 digs on the defensive side of the net while Ruiz had 13.  Grace Tapia and Starnes both added a solo block and 3 block assists while Chanelle Ongchangco had 5 block assists.

The comeback kept the Eagles unbeaten in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play as they improved to 3-0, Desert fell to 2-1.  MSJC is now 10-4 overall  on the season.  The Eagles have two more matches this week as they travel to San Bernardino Valley on Wednesday and then return home for a match with Chaffey on Friday night.  Both matches begin at 5 pm.

Friday's match with Chaffey is the Eagles annual Dig Pink Match, the volleyball program asks that you wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
