Volleyball Team Inches Closer to Conference Title With Win at COD

The MSJC women's volleyball team put themselves in great position to win their second straight conference title when they went on the road and picked up a huge IEAC win at College of the Desert 3-1.

The Eagles took early control of the match as they won the first set by a score of 25-15, they kept the momentum going winning the second 25-19, before the Roadrunners were able to take the third.  The Eagles put the finishing touches on the match in set number four as they won 25-19.

Ruby Ruiz and Aleya Starnes led the offense as both recorded 13 kills, Chanelle Ongchangco added 6 kills.  Alex Sotello passed out 33 assists.  On the other side of the net Kayla Thompson picked up 20 digs while Luci Villafana had 14 and Ruiz 13.  Starnes also had 2 solo blocks and 4 block assists in the win.

The win moved the Eagles to 7-0 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference and 14-5 overall, MSJC now holds a two game lead over Desert in the league standings with three matches remaining.  The Eagles are trying to earn their second straight conference title and will be on the road Wednesday at Cerro Coso at 5 pm.  MSJC's final regular season home game will be Friday at 5 pm against San Bernardino Valley.
