Ruiz, Eason Head IEAC Volleyball Honors

MSJC outside hitter Ruby Ruiz, a sophomore from Yucaipa High School, was named the Inland Empire Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

The MSJC volleyball team won their second straight Inland Empire Athletic Conference title this year and for their efforts five Eagles earned All-Conference recognition and their coach was named the conference Coach of the Year.

Sophomore outside hitter Ruby Ruiz out of Yucaipa HS was named the IEAC Player of the Year.  Ruiz finished the season with 212 kills in 21 matches to go along with 238 digs, 8 solo blocks and 21 block assists.  Ruiz was one of just two sophomores on the Eagles roster this year.  Her coach Serinna Eason was named the IEAC Coach of the Year as she guided the Eagles to the program's first ever unbeaten conference season as MSJC posted a 10-0 mark.  Overall MSJC finished the season 17-6.  This was just the second conference championship in program history and the team has now made four play-off appearances in the last five seasons, the only four in program history.

Ruiz's teammates Aleya Starnes and Luci Villafana were both named First Team All-League while Alex Sotello and Kayla Thompson were selected for Second Team honors.

Starnes, a freshman middle blocker from Heritage HS, led the Eagle defense at the net making 22 solo blocks and 44 block assists during the season.  Villafana (Cornerstone Christian HS) is also a freshman, the outside hitter led the team in kills for the season with 229, she also picked up 237 digs.

Sotello, who is a freshman setter from Cornerstone Christian, had big numbers for MSJC this year as she passed out 612 assists in 22 matches played and averaged 8.5 per set.  Thompson (Paloma Valley HS) played the libero position for the Eagles and picked up nearly 4 digs per set and had a total of 302 on the year.
