The MSJC women' volleyball team went 1-2 over the weekend as they split a pair of matches on Friday at the Pasadena City College Tournament and dropped a road match to East LA on Saturday.
The Eagles opened the season against Cypress Friday morning and came away on the short end of a three set sweep, losing by scores of 23-25, 19-25, and 24-26. Brooklynn Thomas led the way on offense with 11 kills in the match, Megan Gajda added 9 kills for MSJC. Trysta Vincelli passed out a team high 23 assists while Thomas came up with a team best 9 digs. Josephine Springer picked up 8 digs and Lilly Galvan had 7.
MSJC bounced back in their second match of the day as they won in four sets over Mira Costa. The Eagles won 25-18, 18-25, 25-21, and 28-26. This time Thomas and Mckenna Conklin each knocked down a match best 17 kills to lead the Eagles, Hailey Frary added 7. Vincelli had a team high 26 assists and Kalia Anady added 15 helpers. Lauren Cummings came up with two solo blocks on defense while Galvan picked up a match high 18 digs.
Saturday the Eagles traveled to East LA for a non-conference match and fell to the Huskies in straight sets 20-25, 20-25, and 22-25. Carley Kruse had a team high 8 kills for MSJC, Thomas added 7 while Conklin knocked down 6. Vincelli and Anady split time at setter with Vincelli collecting 16 assists and Anady 13. Thomas, Vincelli, and Anady all had 7 digs to lead the defense, Cummings had a pair of solo blocks.
The Eagles will be back in action this week when they host a pair of tri tournaments at the San Jacinto Campus. Wednesday August 30th the Eagles will host Grossmont and LA Mission with matches starting at 11 am and 4 pm. Friday September 1st MSJC will take on Santiago Canyon and Palomar also at 11 am and 4 pm. Both days there will also be a game featuring the other two teams at 1 pm.
